Key Drivers of Cyber Resilience Strategies

During event registration, executives participated in a poll about their company’s cyber resilience and disaster recovery objectives for the next 12 months. Here’s what we learned:

• Risk Assessment and Training are Top Priorities: Nearly half of the respondents (45%) highlighted risk assessment as a key focus area, while over one-third (35%) chose end-user training. These priorities reflect a proactive approach to identifying potential vulnerabilities and empowering employees to respond effectively to security threats.

• Heightened Security Needs Fueling Resilience Efforts: When asked about the factors driving their cyber resilience strategies, 40% of executives pointed to heightened security needs. This concern is well-founded, as the Identity Theft Resource Center reported a dramatic 78% increase in data compromises in 2023 compared to the previous year.

• Additional Factors Impacting Cyber Resilience: Respondents also cited outdated infrastructure or procedures (25%), growing volumes of data (24%), and the challenges posed by a remote workforce (24%) as significant drivers of their resilience strategies. These issues highlight the evolving landscape of cyber risk and the need for continuous adaptation.

Insights from the Peer Poll: Understanding the Challenges

During the live event, participants shared their experiences through our Peer Poll, revealing the top challenges and priorities in cyber resilience:

1. Complex IT Environments Pose a Major Challenge: Nearly half of the respondents (46%) identified the complexity of IT environments as a significant barrier to effective cyber resilience. As IT systems grow more intricate, businesses struggle to maintain oversight and manage risks effectively—a challenge echoed by Harvard Business Review.

2. Third-Party Risk Management: Another pressing concern was managing risks associated with third-party vendors and partners, selected by 23% of respondents. This reflects the broader industry trend of increasing reliance on external services, which can introduce new vulnerabilities if not properly managed.

3. Data Security Remains a Top Priority: More than half of the executives (57%) cited improving data security as their main focus in resilience and disaster recovery planning. With cyber threats continually evolving, safeguarding sensitive information remains a core aspect of any robust resilience strategy.
